SECTION 1: CAMPUS SECURITY AUTHORITYList campus security authority personnel (definition at KRS 164.948(2)): Dean of Student Life, Assistant Dean of Student Life, Director of Physical Plant, Resident Directors. Campus Security is outsourced to Moore Security. Describe the extent and nature of enforcement authority of campus security authority personnel: The College utilizes an unarmed contracted security service for evening
and weekend protection. Security is responsible for calling the Owensboro
Police Department who have jurisdiction over any crime at KWC. Specific
written guidelines and policies adapted for our facilities and activities have
been established in cooperation with the security service. A copy of this
agreement and specific officer instructions are maintained in the Physical
Plant Office and Business Office. The Dean of Student Life is responsible for
the security service and receives copies of daily activity logs maintained by
the security officers. As required by federal statutes, criminal activity
statistics are maintained by an annual report available on our
website. A collaboration is maintained between KWC security authorities with local and state authorities. Campus Security Personnel or any campus person can contact the Owensboro Police Department who have jurisdiction over any crime at KWC. SECTION 2: DESCRIPTION OF INFORMATION PROGRAMSDescribe programs that inform students and employees about: (a) Campus safety and security
(b) How to report a crime: When security issues arise, students are advised to respond by contacting
the following: Resident Assistant, Resident Director, Security Guard, and/or
Student Dean.
(c) How to prevent crimes: Crime prevention at Kentucky Wesleyan College is a priority. Every effort
is made to help people avoid becoming crime victims. This focus is evident in
the crime prevention efforts of the Student Life Office, which presents crime
prevention information to all new students. This is provided to instruct
students on how to avoid situations which would place them in jeopardy. The
educational process continues periodically in residence hall meetings
conducted by the resident directors and resident assistants. Personal security
issues are discussed with students in a variety of ways during these
sessions. SECTION 3: STATEMENTS OF POLICIES AND PROCEDURES(a) Provide the institution’s policy statement on making Special Reports to the campus community of crimes that present a safety or security threat to students or employees. KRS 164.9481(d) Upon instances that are deemed to pose a safety or security threat to students or employees, a communication will be released from the Campus Security Authority Personenl or Dean of Students. (b) If the institution provides student housing facilities, describe the institution’s procedure for disclosing the existence or nonexistence of automatic fire suppression systems in on-campus housing facilities. KRS 164.9492 During check-in of residential student population into campus housing, residents are required to read, complete and sign a fire sprinkler declaration. (c) If the institution provides student housing facilities, provide the institution’s policy for giving students with disabilities priority for first-floor housing. KRS 164.9495 (1) Kentucky Wesleyan College housing policy follows Kentucky state law which states each college or university is required to give priority for first floor housing to disabled students who notify the institutions of their disablity. If first floor housing is unavailable, then the institution allows the student to seek alternative or off-campus housing. (d) If the institution provides student housing facilities, describe the institution’s policy for maintaining a record of any on-campus housing assignment for students with disabilities, and the procedure for alerting safety and emergency personnel of the location of students with disabilities. KRS 164.9495 (2) A student database is maintained with all on campus housing assignments, and this document also notes residents with special needs. In the event of an emergency, our campus safety authority personnel have been advised as to the location and required accomodations of the residents with special needs. SECTION 4: CRIME TABLE
